Where Do Your Children Go After School

Programs

Programs in this area develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. Our programs include:

Smart Moves...Our nationally acclaimed comprehensive prevention program helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, as well as premature sexual activity. The program features engaging, interactive small group activities designed to increase participants' peer support, enhance their life-skills, build their resiliency and strengthen their leadership skills. This year-round program encourages collaboration among Club staff, youth parents and representatives from other community organizations. Alexander City Schools Nurse Donna Campbell a group of teen peer leaders from B.R.H.S. have been through the Smart Moves training and conduct the program in our local schools.

Passport to Manhood...Part of Boys & Girls Club of America's fatherhood Initiative promotes positive values and responsibility to boys ages 11-14. Three components of the initiative include: Effective fathering-two three hour training modules for Club Fathers, Passport to Manhood-14-one hour sessions for boys 11-14 and Guide to working with Teen Fathers-available to Clubs later in the year.

Guilt Free Guidance...Club provide fun with a purpose. While members participate in games room activities such as pool, foosball, table tennis and bumper pool Club staff take the opportunity to provide guidance to them in areas such as how to handle disputes, communication, building motor skills, manners, sportsmanship and learning rules.

I Can Do It...Members participate and learn many home survival skills that allow them to function safely on their own if there is no adult present. Activities range from cooking and ironing to guest speakers who promote fire safety, gun safety or how to deal with an emergency situation. The program includes Boys & Girls Clubs Child Safety and Protection Program. (Sponsored by Compaq Computer Corporation & Digital Equipment Corporation)
